Honoring amazing young adults who have navigated life’s toughest challenges.

Our Purpose

The Firelands Positive People High School Positive Living Award, established in 1996, honors exceptional students who have triumphantly navigated significant challenges and have emerged as leaders within their schools and communities. In a world that can often feel overwhelming, these remarkable individuals have confronted life’s toughest obstacles with resilience, embodying a positive outlook and an optimistic approach to living. Their inspiring journeys serve as a testament to the power of perseverance and the impact of a positive mindset.

Living in the moment has helped me to become the person that I want to be. And I don’t let tough matters stop me.
— Rosemarie

Our award program provides financial assistance with a specific emphasis on identifying young individuals who have faced and successfully overcome exceptional challenges. While many aid programs primarily recognize academic achievements, financial need, or leadership potential, the Firelands Positive People High School Positive Living Award also aims to honor students who have cultivated the skills necessary for a positive and fulfilling life.

The Firelands Positive People board selects a winner from each of the fifteen high schools in Erie, Ottawa, Lorain, and Huron counties, with the top three finalists receiving additional scholarship funding. This initiative not only recognizes resilience and determination but also celebrates the positive contributions these students make to their communities.

My experiences have brought me strength, maturity, along with a deep desire to have a life helping others. My story does NOT define me, it just makes me stronger.

The hardest realizations are NOT focusing on the negative. The environment I was trapped in my whole life will no longer be holding me back from being the best version of myself
